Limerino 1.1.6 — iPad, Limerino badges, and a cleaner Profile and Settings
What’s new in 1.1.6
Limerino comes to iPad, with Limerino badges beside your Twitch badges, a cleaner Profile and Settings, Discord linking, Halloween themes, and highlight alerts that reach you while Limerino is closed.
iPad. In a wide window the channel list sits beside the conversation, and the stream and chat share the screen side by side. Settings, the inbox, 7TV and channel logs show a list beside its detail, long text keeps a readable width, a chatter’s card opens beside the name you tapped, and the videos and clips browser is a grid of thumbnails.
Keyboard, pointer and windows. On iPad, a hardware keyboard moves through name and emote suggestions with Tab, can send with Return if you turn that on, and reaches Settings and Switch Channel from the menu bar. A pointer highlights what it is over, and a right-click opens the same actions a long press does. Open a channel in a new window, and run Limerino beside other apps in Split View and Stage Manager. The Home Screen widget and a live stream’s Live Activity work on iPad too.
Badges. Limerino badges appear beside your Twitch badges, and animated 7TV badges now animate in chat. One Badges screen on your Profile shows your name with its badges as chat draws them, lets you choose which Limerino badge shows beside your name or none, lists your Twitch badges, and with 7TV connected lets you pick your 7TV badge in the app. BetterTTV Pro badges show in chat while BetterTTV badges are on. Tap the badges beside anyone’s name to see what each one is and how to get it.
Profile and Settings. Profile is a few short groups: In chat, Connections, Channels, Your channel and Account. Settings is a short list of plain rows, and each group opens its own screen. Chat rows are compact by default; Settings › Chat display › Compact rows turns them back off. Emotes open with one tap from the new button in the message field.
Discord. Link Discord from Settings or Profile. Signed in, the row says Link Discord until your account is linked, then shows your Discord name, and the Discord screen tells you when the server’s channels did not open and what to do about it.
Themes. Lantern is a Halloween palette, and saved themes in Settings › Appearance let you name and save your look, then apply, rename, update or delete it. Limerino wears a jack-o’-lantern icon for October.
Alerts while Limerino is closed. One-word highlight rules with System notification on can send a push from your own channel or a channel you follow with mention alerts on. Multi-word phrases, patterns and username rules still alert only while Limerino is open. Choose live and offline alerts per channel; they start off, and they make no sound during Quiet times. Press and hold a phrase alert to mute the person who said it.
Chat. 7TV image paints keep their colours and stretch across the whole name, and glow and outline paints show too. If you subscribe to a channel, its follower emotes work for you in every channel. A message Twitch refuses says why on the message itself, with Discard and Retry. Emote and name suggestions work after /me and other commands, and a single gifted subscription shows as one line naming who received it.
Your settings, backed up. Your settings survive a lost or unreadable settings store: Limerino keeps a backup on your device and restores it. Also improved: muting from a notification, unread mention counts, emotes and badges in replay chat, and the cleanup when you sign out.
In more detail
iPad, in detail. Limerino runs as a native iPad app now, where it used to show an enlarged iPhone layout. In a wide window the channel list sits beside the conversation, with search and the live channels marked, and Control-Command-S shows or hides it. Two split channels sit side by side in a wide window and one above the other in a tall one, and Split View and Stage Manager work down to the smallest window. Settings, a channel’s logs and the inbox show a list beside its detail, with Mentions, Highlights and Whispers side by side, and 7TV emotes show as a grid.
Several windows. Touch and hold a channel in the channel list and choose Open in New Window. Each window keeps its own channel, video and chat, so switching channels or opening Settings in one leaves the other as it was. A mention alert or Handoff opens in the window that is showing that channel.
Keyboard and pointer. On iPad the menu bar, or the list you see when you hold Command, has Settings… (Command-comma), Switch Channel… (Command-K) and Show or Hide Channel List (Control-Command-S). Type part of a name or an emote, then press Tab to move into the suggestions above the message box: the arrow keys move through them, Return picks one and Escape leaves the list. To send with Return, turn on Return sends messages under Settings › Device; Shift-Return then starts a new line. A right-click on a message opens the same actions as a long press.
The Badges screen. Open Badges from the In chat group on your Profile, from the Badges row under Account in Settings, or from your own profile card. It starts with your name and its badges as chat draws them. Below that you choose which Limerino badge shows beside your name, or none, and see the Limerino badges you have collected. Your Twitch badges follow, with a Channel badges screen; Twitch badges are picked in Twitch’s own chat settings, and the screen says so. With 7TV connected you can pick your 7TV badge here, and badges from other services are listed too. A new choice shows on your own messages straight away.
Badges in chat. Limerino badges sit after a person’s Twitch badges and before their 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ badges, and everyone using Limerino sees them, in live chat and in replay chat on past broadcasts and clips. Tap the badges beside anyone’s name, or touch and hold a message and choose Badge details, for a plain list of that person’s badges, then tap one to see what it is and how to get it. The profile card shows a person’s Limerino badge too.
BetterTTV Pro badges. BetterTTV Pro badges, yours included, show in chat and on the Badges screen while BetterTTV global badges is on, under Settings › Emote & badge display. To show them, Limerino tells BetterTTV your Twitch user ID and each channel you open while you are signed in. Turning off BetterTTV global badges, or Show badges, stops it, and the privacy policy says so.
Highlight alerts while Limerino is closed. A single-word highlight rule with System notification on can now send a push when someone says that word in your own channel, or in a followed channel that has mention alerts on. Mention push alerts has to be on too. The word has to be 3 to 25 characters long, using the letters A to Z, numbers or underscores. Up to 10 words can alert this way, counted across all your devices, and each device keeps its own list. Very common words are refused, and a word that matches too often pauses itself for a day. The rule editor says whether each rule reaches a closed app. Press and hold one of these alerts and choose Mute this user to stop alerts from the person who said it. Ludicrous mode still covers mentions of your name everywhere, but these words come only from your own channel and the followed channels with mention alerts on.
Live and offline alerts. Live and offline alerts are now chosen channel by channel, and they start off. Touch and hold a channel in the channel list and choose Turn on live alerts, or open Settings › Activity alerts › Live alert channels, where All channels covers your Favorites and open channels, including ones you add later. An alert that a stream has gone live skips the channel you are already watching. Live and offline alerts that reach you while Limerino is closed arrive silently during Quiet times, set under Settings › Mention alerts.
Mention alerts. Mentions now reach you from the smaller channels you follow too, not only from the bigger ones. A mention you read in one Shared Chat room no longer lights up again in the other, and mentions you have already read stay read.
7TV paints. Image paints keep their real colours, with only the dark parts that would disappear brightened, and they stretch across the whole name. Paints that are only a glow or an outline now show. To see these paints exactly as 7TV draws them, turn off Readable name colors under Settings › Names & text.
Compact rows, the profile card and the emote button. Compact chat rows are the default now. If you never changed how chat rows look, chat switches to compact rows once after this update; turn off Compact rows under Settings › Chat display to go back, and your choice stays. The profile card leads with Whisper, Videos and Copy; Report and Block sit at the bottom; and the role pills under the badges are gone. A button in the message field opens the emote picker in one tap, and your draft stays in view while you pick.
Profile and Settings, in detail. On Profile, In chat holds Badges, Chat color, your 7TV name paint and Your emotes, and Connections holds Discord, 7TV and Manage emote sets. Chat color has its own screen, Unlink Discord and Disconnect 7TV sit one level deeper, and Mod channels is a single row. In Settings most of the long explanations under switches are gone, and Settings always opens at its top list.
Discord, in detail. The Discord row sits near the top of Settings. Signed in, it says Link Discord until your account is linked, then Linked as your Discord name, and it opens the Discord screen, the same one the Discord row on your Profile opens. Before you link, the screen reminds you to connect Twitch under Connections in your Discord settings first, so linking unlocks the server in one go. If the server’s channels did not open after you linked, or Limerino could not add you to the server, the screen says so and offers Link again or Join the Discord.
Themes and the October icon. Lantern is a Halloween palette: a plum night with candle-cream text and pumpkin highlights, in light, dark and True Black. Pick it under Color palette in Settings › Appearance. Saved themes, in the same place, keep your current look under a name; apply one in a tap, rename it, update it or delete it, and undo an update or a delete you did not mean. For October, Limerino wears a jack-o’-lantern app icon.
Settings backup. Limerino now keeps a copy of your settings on your device each time they save. If the settings store is ever lost or cannot be read, Limerino restores your settings from that copy when it opens, instead of starting over with the default settings and the terms screen.
Fixes in chat. When Twitch refuses a message, for example because your account needs a verified email or phone number, or because of a channel’s settings, the message shows as not sent and says why once, on the message itself. Retry sends it again, and Discard removes it and puts its text back in the message box. Emote and name suggestions appear while you type after /me and other commands. A single gifted subscription shows as one line naming who received it, instead of reading like two gifts. If you subscribe to a channel, its follower emotes work for you in every channel: in the emote picker, in autocomplete and in your own messages. Replay chat on past broadcasts and clips shows the channel’s emotes and badges. In portrait, chat text sits closer to the edges of the screen. /timeout accepts durations like 1d12h and refuses one it cannot read. A message of yours removed by a moderator or a bot shows as deleted for you too. When the “Checking…” card appears at the top of chat, the newest message stays above the message box instead of sliding under it.
Fixes in alerts and signing out. Whispers no longer set off a second alert. Muting a channel or a person from a notification sticks, even on a weak connection, and turning a muted channel back on brings its alerts back. Signing out clears Limerino’s notifications and unsent messages.
Known limitations.
- With chat beside the video, the landscape top bar is too narrow for the delay reading on iPhone 16, 15, 15 Pro and 14 Pro, iPhone XS and 11 Pro, the mini models and iPhone SE. The uptime stays; hide chat, or switch to Chat over video under Settings › Video › Chat layout, to see the reading.
- On iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 16 Pro, 16e, 14, 13, 13 Pro, 12 and 12 Pro, the delay reading also leaves that bar once a stream has been live for more than ten hours, because the uptime grows wider.
- While playback is paused, or just after it starts and before the first reading arrives, the bar keeps a space for the delay reading without a number in it.
- In Twitch’s embedded player the delay reading is an estimate (“about 3s behind”), which is wider, so it can still leave the bar with chat beside the video.
- Chat can still step as it settles after scrolling with the reply bar open, and very busy chat can feel slow on older phones.
- Lead moderators cannot add or remove moderators or VIPs inside Limerino, because Twitch keeps that step for its own site and app; use Twitch for those changes.
- Only one-word highlight rules can alert you while Limerino is closed. Multi-word phrases, regular-expression patterns and username rules alert only while it is open.
- Up to 10 words can alert you while Limerino is closed, counted across all your devices; a word past that limit alerts only while Limerino is open.
- Other people see a change to your Limerino badge within about half an hour, and a badge you have just earned can take a while to show in chat.
A Twitch account is required to read and send chat in Limerino.
