Limerino

Limerino 1.1.7 — Emotes on the + button and a quicker emote picker

Released · App Store build 365

What’s new in 1.1.7

Emotes are on the + button beside the message box, and the emote picker is quicker to search and to insert from.

Emotes on the + button. Tap + beside the message box and choose Emotes; with image uploads on, Photo is in the same menu. When Emotes is all + has to offer, which is the usual case with image uploads turned off, it opens the emote picker in one tap. The smiley button at the end of the message box is gone, so your message has more room.

A quicker emote picker. The picker responds faster when you search for an emote or insert one, and animated emotes reload less as you scroll.

In more detail

The + button, in detail. With image uploads on, which is how Limerino starts, + opens a short menu with Emotes and Photo. With image uploads off, under Settings › Links & images › Image uploads, + usually has only Emotes to offer, so it opens the emote picker straight away, with no menu in between. Either way, an emote lands where your cursor is, the rest of your draft stays as it was, and if the keyboard was up, it comes back when the picker closes.

Sending a message again. Touch and hold the send button to lock a typed message so that each tap sends it again, or, with the message box empty, to send your last message again. When + opens its menu, whichever of the two you can do is in that menu too. At the largest text sizes, touching and holding the send button shows its name in large type instead, so + opens its menu whenever there is a message to lock or to send again, even with image uploads off. With VoiceOver, both are actions on the send button.

The emote picker, in detail. The picker holds on to the results of the search you are on, so inserting several emotes from one search, or switching to Emoji and back, shows them without searching again. When the picker opens, an animated emote that is about to play loads only its animation, without also loading a still image of it, and an animated emote that was getting ready to play when you scrolled away can carry on when you scroll back, rather than starting over. Animated emotes still follow your animation settings. The control on the Recently Used heading that sets how many rows to show (All, or a number) has a plainer look.

Known limitations.

  • With chat beside the video, the landscape top bar is too narrow for the delay reading on iPhone 16, 15, 15 Pro and 14 Pro, iPhone XS and 11 Pro, the mini models and iPhone SE. The uptime stays; hide chat, or switch to Chat over video under Settings › Video › Chat layout, to see the reading.
  • On iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 16 Pro, 16e, 14, 13, 13 Pro, 12 and 12 Pro, the delay reading also leaves that bar once a stream has been live for more than ten hours, because the uptime grows wider.
  • While playback is paused, or just after it starts and before the first reading arrives, the bar keeps a space for the delay reading without a number in it.
  • In Twitch’s embedded player the delay reading is an estimate (“about 3s behind”), which is wider, so it can still leave the bar with chat beside the video.
  • Chat can still step as it settles after scrolling with the reply bar open, and very busy chat can feel slow on older phones.
  • Lead moderators cannot add or remove moderators or VIPs inside Limerino, because Twitch keeps that step for its own site and app; use Twitch for those changes.
  • Only one-word highlight rules can alert you while Limerino is closed. Multi-word phrases, regular-expression patterns and username rules alert only while it is open.
  • Up to 10 words can alert you while Limerino is closed, counted across all your devices; a word past that limit alerts only while Limerino is open.
  • Other people see a change to your Limerino badge within about half an hour, and a badge you have just earned can take a while to show in chat.

A Twitch account is required to read and send chat in Limerino.
