Limerino 1.1.8 — Predictions, Channel Points, Picture in Picture, and clips
What’s new in 1.1.8
Predict, vote in polls and spend Channel Points in chat, watch live streams in Picture in Picture, make clips, and put your own photo behind chat.
Predictions, polls and Channel Points. Tap the prediction at the top of chat, pick an outcome and how many Channel Points to use, and tap Predict. Vote in a poll from the top of chat or with /poll; where a channel allows it, Add a vote spends Channel Points on an extra vote. Moderators can run polls and predictions. Your Channel Points balance sits at the top of chat: tap it to redeem rewards or unlock emotes where a channel offers them. Settings › Banners & chat modes can show Hype Train progress.
Picture in Picture. With the sound on, a live stream on the default Native player moves to a floating Picture in Picture window when you leave Limerino or tap the Picture in Picture button in the player controls. Closing the window pauses the stream. Settings › Video › Picture in Picture turns it off.
Clips and video. While a channel is live, ⋯ › Create clip makes a clip on Twitch under your account and lets you watch it or share its link once it is ready. Profile › Your clips lists the clips you make in Limerino on this device. Clips play in Limerino’s own player. In Settings › Video, turning off Live video player opens every channel as a chat room, and Start with video closed opens live channels on the Watch live bar. Live video holds up better on a slow or unstable connection.
Chat. You see a channel’s pinned message at the top of chat, moderator or not. Before your first message, a card offers the channel’s chat rules. The line above the message box says what a channel needs before you can chat, and a row at the top of chat gives the reason when a moderator warns, times out or bans you. Moderators see Moderation history on a chatter’s card. FFZ effects such as ffzX and ffzRainbow flip or animate the emote before them. A 7TV emote link shows as its emote card. Settings › Emote & badge display › GIF size makes GIFs sent in chat Small, Medium or Large.
Chat backgrounds. Settings › Appearance › Chat background puts your own photo behind chat, in every channel or just one, with opacity, blur and saturation. The photo stays on this device.
Mentions and alerts. Match case, under Settings › Mention alerts › Your username, counts a mention only when your username has its exact capitals. Identical mentions in a row from the same person collapse into one, and the Mentions list opens faster. Reading a mention in chat clears its notification and updates the icon badge. Settings › Activity alerts › Badges you can earn can alert you when a Twitch badge you lack becomes earnable or when you earn one, and Earnable now lists the ones you can still get and how.
Profile and account. Settings › Badges › Twitch badge chooses the badge you wear, everywhere or in one channel. Opening Whispers brings in your 20 most recent conversations from Twitch. Settings, channels, chat logs, whispers and drafts belong to the Twitch account that set them up: signing out keeps them on this device, and another account never sees them. Settings › Account › Advanced › Choose permissions… lets you pick which Twitch permissions to grant.
iPhone Duo. On iPhone Duo, Limerino follows the fold. With the phone half open like a book, the stream takes one side and chat the other; half open like a laptop, the stream sits above the fold and chat below.
Also. Your keyboard, draft and reply stay put when you open or close the video, and an image upload lands in the channel you picked it in. Emote autocomplete leaves no typed letters behind with predictive text on. Settings › Typing › Suggest your own name adds you to @ suggestions.
In more detail
Predictions, in detail. While a prediction runs, it shows at the top of chat, with a Predictions button beside your balance. Tap the prediction, pick an outcome, set how many Channel Points to use, and tap Predict; the row shows your pick, then the result. The first time, Twitch asks you to accept its prediction terms: Read the terms shows them inside Limerino, and Accept terms places nothing, so your next Predict is the one that counts. Moderators, and Affiliates and Partners on their own channel, start, lock, resolve and cancel predictions from the Predictions button at the top of chat, which moves into the ⋯ menu when the top of chat has no room. Cancelling one gives everyone their Channel Points back.
Polls, in detail. Vote from the poll at the top of chat, or type /poll to open it; once you vote, the row reads Voted. Where the channel allows extra votes, Add a vote spends Channel Points on another vote and shows the cost on the button before you tap it. Moderators start and end polls.
Channel Points, in detail. Your balance in the open channel sits at the top of chat, as a dash until Twitch answers and as the exact number below 100,000. Tap it for the rewards you can redeem and the sub emote unlocks a channel offers; when the top of chat has no room, it is Channel Points in the ⋯ menu. Twitch’s answer appears under the emote, and an emote you unlock joins your picker in that channel. When Twitch offers you a resub to share, Share in chat posts it. Redemptions in chat name the reward.
Hype Trains. Hype Train progress can show at the top of chat. It starts off: turn on Hype Train under Live events in Settings › Banners & chat modes. Touch and hold a poll, prediction or Hype Train row to turn that kind of row off; Limerino asks first.
Picture in Picture, in detail. Picture in Picture works on the Native player, the default under Settings › Video › Player type, and only with the sound on. Leave Limerino while a live stream plays, or tap the Picture in Picture button in the player controls, and the stream moves to a floating window. Tap the placeholder in the player, or come back to Limerino, and the stream returns to the player. Closing the window pauses the stream. Settings › Video › Picture in Picture, on by default, turns it off.
Clips, in detail. While a channel is live, ⋯ › Create clip captures the moment on Twitch under your account and follows it until Twitch finishes it, then lets you watch it, copy its link or share it. /clip takes a title, as in “/clip big play”. Profile › Your clips lists the clips you made in Limerino on this device. Clips play in Limerino’s own player, with play, a slider, mute and a quality choice; if one can’t play there, Twitch’s player takes over, and closing the clip brings your live stream back. The Videos and Clips browser refreshes when you pull down and adds a Show filter, Featured only and video lengths. Settings › Video › Create clips turns clip making off.
Video choices and slow connections. In Settings › Video, turning off Live video player turns live video off everywhere, so every channel opens as a chat room. Start with video closed, off by default, opens live channels on the Watch live bar above chat; tap the bar when you want the stream. On a slow or unstable connection the sound no longer warbles, a stall picks up where it stopped, and quality steps up only when your connection can hold it. Mute and unmute respond reliably and leave other apps’ paused audio alone.
Pinned messages and chat rules. A channel’s pinned message shows at the top of chat for everyone. It hides while the channel is offline unless you turn off Hide pinned message while offline, next to Show pinned message in Settings › Banners & chat modes. In a channel with chat rules, a card before your first message lets you read them, and a warning, timeout or ban row offers Chat rules too.
Why chat stops you. The line above the message box says what a channel needs before you can chat, such as followers-only or subscriber-only chat, or a verified phone. When a moderator warns, times out or bans you, a row at the top of chat gives their reason; a warning also shows above the message box, and Acknowledge lets you keep chatting. When a timeout or ban is lifted early, the notice goes away when you tap the message box, come back to the channel or to Limerino, or send a message that goes through.
Moderation history. In a channel you moderate, a chatter’s card shows Moderation history: past moderator actions, their messages and moderator comments. Add a comment, or delete one of your own. Settings › Behavior › Moderation history turns it off.
Emote effects, links and GIFs. FrankerFaceZ effects change the emote before them: ffzX flips it, ffzY turns it upside down, ffzW widens it, ffzCursed makes it black and white, and supporters’ effects such as ffzRainbow, ffzJam and ffzSpin animate it. Tap the emote to see its effect; Settings › Emote sources › Show FFZ emote effects turns them off. A 7TV emote link shows as that emote’s card, and emote cards offer Copy link for 7TV, BetterTTV and FrankerFaceZ emotes. GIF size, in Settings › Emote & badge display, sets GIFs sent in chat to Small, Medium (the default) or Large. Settings › Links & images › Tappable links outside chat, off by default, makes links tappable in banners, stream titles, the inbox and profiles.
Chat backgrounds, in detail. Pick a photo from your library or from Files for every channel, or give one channel its own photo or none. Drag and pinch to frame it for portrait and for landscape, then set Opacity, Blur and Saturation. A bright photo stays subtle so chat stays readable, and Reduce Transparency, Increase Contrast and Invert Colors hide it. The photo is stored on this device and never uploaded.
Mentions and notifications, in detail. Match case applies to the highlight, the sound, the notification, the Mentions list and push alerts. Identical mentions in a row from one person in one channel collapse into one row. With Mention push alerts off, Limerino shows no mention banners of its own, even while Picture in Picture is up; mentions still land in your Mentions list. Reading a mention or a reply in chat clears its notification, the icon badge follows, and a mention you read stays read. Missed-message and periodic summaries count only the mentions you haven’t read, and none arrives when you have read them all. Tapping a mention from a channel you have never opened shows the message that mentioned you, highlighted.
Badge alerts and Earnable now. Badges you can earn, under Settings › Activity alerts, has two switches, Watch and clip badges and Sub and Bits badges, both off by default. Turned on, they alert you when a Twitch badge you don’t have becomes earnable and when you earn one. Earnable now, on the Badges screen and under Activity alerts, lists the Twitch badges you can still get and how.
Badges, in detail. Settings › Badges › Twitch badge picks the Twitch badge you wear everywhere; under a channel in Channel badges, Badge in this channel picks one for that channel, and Use my global badge goes back. Settings › Emote & badge display › Badges from other services adds three switches, all on, for supporter badges from two more services. Those supporter badges and BetterTTV Pro badges play their animations, and a 7TV paint or badge goes away when the subscription behind it ends.
Whispers, in detail. Opening Whispers brings in your 20 most recent conversations from Twitch, and opening a conversation brings in its latest 50 messages. They are saved on this device under your account, kept when you sign out, and never sent to a Limerino server. A conversation you delete stays gone. Copy whisper copies the text for this device only and clears it after 15 minutes. Settings › Behavior › Load earlier whispers turns the fetch off.
Your data stays with your account. Settings, open channels, chat logs, whispers, the Inbox, drafts, your 7TV connection and image-upload headers belong to the Twitch account you set them up with. Signing out deletes nothing: it stays on this device, comes back when you sign in again, and another account never sees it. To erase what an account kept here, swipe it in Settings › Accounts and tap Remove; Limerino says what it deletes and asks first. While Limerino checks a stored sign-in, Settings, Profile and Account say “Checking your Twitch sign-in” with Check again, and never sign you out.
Permissions and feature switches. Settings › Account › Advanced › Choose permissions… asks first, then lets you turn Twitch permissions off before you approve on Twitch. Reading chat stays on, and a feature that needs a permission you turned off says so; Use recommended permissions turns everything back on. The same list has Web features. It isn’t a Twitch permission, so it changes right away, with nothing to approve: off hides polls, predictions, Channel Points, pinned messages, chat rules, warnings, Hype Train, choosing your Twitch badge, moderation history and earlier whispers, while chat and video keep working. Each of those except choosing your Twitch badge also has its own switch, all on except Hype Train, in Settings › Banners & chat modes, Settings › Channel Points and Settings › Behavior.
The message box and uploads. Your keyboard, draft, a reply you started and a locked message stay put when you open or close the video. An image upload shows its progress with Cancel, finishes even if you close the video, lands in the channel you picked it in, and leaves a thumbnail above the message box until you send; tap it to see it full screen, or tap Hide. Emote autocomplete leaves no typed letters behind with predictive text on, and tapping a category in the emote picker’s strip lands on it. Suggest your own name, in Settings › Typing and off by default, lists your name once you type @ and the start of it.
Launch and reliability. Every tab loads its message history, even when you switch tabs while the first is loading. A signed-in launch opens signed in, with your settings applied at once, and a chatter’s Recent messages fill right after launch. Chat fits the screen after you rotate the phone and back on a channel without video. Changing many settings at once, as an import or Reset all does, saves once instead of stalling.
Support requests. The bug report and suggestion forms say that Anthropic’s AI sorts each request from its description and device details, and that diagnostics are never posted to Discord or sent to Anthropic.
iPhone Duo, in detail. Half open like a book, the stream takes one side and chat the other, with the fold between them. Half open like a laptop, the stream sits above the fold, with chat and the message box below. The header, the message box and the banners stay clear of the crease.
Known limitations.
- With chat beside the video, the landscape top bar is too narrow for the delay reading on iPhone 16, 15, 15 Pro and 14 Pro, iPhone XS and 11 Pro, the mini models and iPhone SE. The uptime stays; hide chat, or switch to Chat over video under Settings › Video › Chat layout, to see the reading.
- On iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 16 Pro, 16e, 14, 13, 13 Pro, 12 and 12 Pro, the delay reading also leaves that bar once a stream has been live for more than ten hours, because the uptime grows wider.
- While playback is paused, or just after it starts and before the first reading arrives, the bar keeps a space for the delay reading without a number in it.
- In Twitch’s embedded player the delay reading is an estimate (“about 3s behind”), which is wider, so it can still leave the bar with chat beside the video.
- Chat can still step as it settles after scrolling with the reply bar open, and very busy chat can feel slow on older phones.
- Lead moderators cannot add or remove moderators or VIPs inside Limerino, because Twitch keeps that step for its own site and app.
- Only one-word highlight rules can alert you while Limerino is closed. Multi-word phrases, regular-expression patterns and username rules alert only while it is open.
- Up to 10 words can alert you while Limerino is closed, counted across all your devices; a word past that limit alerts only while Limerino is open.
- Other people see a change to your Limerino badge within about half an hour, and a badge you have just earned can take a while to show in chat.
- The first time you open 1.1.8, the settings you already had go to the Twitch account that was signed in. If you were signed out when you updated, they come back when you sign in with the account you used before; a different account starts fresh.
- A new poll can take up to a minute to show, predictions in channels other than your own refresh every 15 to 60 seconds, and a pinned message updates when you open the channel.
- At the narrowest Display Zoom, a moderator’s Channel Points balance sits in the ⋯ menu instead of at the top of chat.
- Past broadcasts play in Twitch’s player, not in Limerino’s.
- With Live video player off, asking Siri to play a channel tells you how to turn the player on; the channel still opens.
- A mention you open from a channel you have never opened shows the message as text; Twitch emote images and badges in it arrive only if that channel’s recent chat loads.
- After a timeout is lifted, Twitch can take a moment to confirm it; if the notice comes back, tap the message box again after thirty seconds to clear it.
A Twitch account is required to read and send chat in Limerino.
